The School of International Regional Studies of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, HSE University together with the Russian Middle East Association, as part of series of online seminars "Contemporary Area Studies" (Special Session “10th anniversary of the Arab Spring”), hold a discussion with a renowned Lebanese political scientist, public figure, director of the Institute for Strategic and Communication Studies in Lebanon (Isticharia-ISCS) Dr. Imad Rizk.
The topic of the discussion: "Lebanon: Model for New wave of the Arab Spring"
Dr. Imad Rizk’s presentation will focus on the developments in Lebanon (2011 – 2021). In addition, he will analyze the events occurred during the first wave of the Arab Spring and try to outline key reasons of this political transformation in the MENA region. Dr. Rizk will speak about the role of radical movements in the region and will highlight vital political and socio-economic issues for MENA states. Our speaker will try to find out wether the current social unrest in the region is a new wave of the Arab Spring or it is just the aftermath of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
